From never run more than 5km to 113km triathlon in 4 month.
4 months - I went from “not a cardio person”, never run more than 5K, and didn’t know how to swim, to “I do a 113km triathlon”… and it all started with a single decision.
I decided that this is going to be my reality.
And despite having an intense stomach flu 3 days before the race, I did it.
Here are 3 Lessons I learned from my journey to triathlon that are applicable to live a life rooted in our authentic truth:
1.Do not listen to those who are not in the arena
The people who didn’t believe you could do it are the people who have NEVER DONE IT THEMSELVES.
The first time I told my dad about the idea of doing a triathlon 113km 4months ago, he appeared upset and told me not to do it. He didn’t think I could do it and that I would just be disappointed in my failure. He suggested that I should start with something lighter and shorter distance.
Note: this is my dear father who loves me dearly.
Had I listened to him, even though he came with a good intention, this experience wouldn’t exist.
My dad ran the last 30 meters and crossed the finish line with me 🥹. What a full circle moment - from convincing me to quit to supporting me through the finish line. ❤️
People around you no matter how much they love you are going to project their limitations onto you.
It is your responsibility to lead yourself through the trenches and walk your life rooted in your authentic truth.
2. Surround yourself in a community that helps you grow.
The moment I put myself in a triathlon training community and train with them, my performance increased drastically.
That’s when I realized: Your circle of influence directly impacts the results in your life. Surround yourself with the people you desire to become.
3. Have love and compassion with your journey.
When we compare with others, we put ourselves down.
When we can patiently honour our journey and lovingly celebrate our progress, overcoming limits becomes a lot easier and fun. :)
Out here being delulu!
With love,
